Private Client, Chicago
When we were approached for a special commission by our client in Chicago, she described the setting in her new luxury high-rise, a chic little corner of a large open space overlooking the Chicago skyline. With a color palette in mind, as well as an idea for a sense of movement and fun, we worked with her to create two large-scale mounted photographs facing each other and thereby in conversation with each other.
The photographs were shot in studio #2 in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, on a set and with costumes created in-house, although in quite a different color palette initially—bright yellows and pinks—which we turned into glowing golden torsos. Our process begins with a sketch, and then to sourcing textiles and props from the Garment District and beyond, and then to working with our “model” who dances and moves slowly in front of the Hasselblad which, set to a long exposure, captures a sense of time, playfulness, and mood.
We were pleased to see our client was pleased! Collaborations such as this one are a specialty of the studio, and we invite more!
An insightful and community-minded developer of Brooklyn public housing made a special trip to Industry City Open Studios in order to commission original art specifically from Brooklyn-based artists, such a unique vision. This wonderful group, Dunn Developers, acquired a set of four prints for the community room at the Bergen Saratoga Apartments.
The images were shot in the Sunset Park, Brooklyn studio, on a set and with costumes created in-house, in muted blues. Close crops printed quite dark of the full-length figures resulted in moody abstractions in deep blues.
Our process begins with a sketch, and then to sourcing textiles and props from the Garment District and beyond, and then to working with our “models” who move slowly in front of the Hasselblad which, set to a long exposure, captures a sense of time, solemnity, and mood.
We were pleased to participate in such an important project, and indeed, this developer contacted the studio for additional projects of theirs in Brooklyn. Collaborations such as this one are a specialty of the studio, and we invite more!
